Arsenal star ‘Togo’ to the San Siro in £31m move?

by jakepjohnson on June 12th, 2008 58 comments

Arsenal’s Togolese striker Emmanuel Adebayor has agreed a deal with Ac Milan, according to reports in Italy.

La Gazzetta Dello Sport revealed that the striker met with representatives of the Rossoneri and agreed a deal. However, the terms of the transfer have not yet been agreed, with Milan president Silvio Berlusconi yet to positively respond to Arsenal’s supposed €40million (£31.7million) asking price.

As Gazetta writer Andrea Schianchi explains:

Everything possible has already been done: the agreement with the player (and what a player!) is in place, which is already a major step. Now it comes down to Berlusconi’s decision and then negotiations with the Arsenal management.

However, this scenario has occured at Milan before. The £23.7million transfer of Azzuri defender Alessandro Nesta from Lazio in 2003 had a similar rocky path to completition.

Schianchi expands on this:

Berlusconi officially announced that he would not buy the defender [Nesta] because the asking price was too high: the player was signed just three days later

The journalist then goes on to do his best to convince Berlusconi that the striker is worth the money:

Considering his age (24), the player would be an investment for the future; certainly more so than Drogba (30) or Eto’o (27, but has suffered several leg injuries). If the deal were to go through Milan’s forward line would need no further adjustments for several years: Pato is 18 years old, Kaka 26 and Adebayor 24. In short, Berlusconi should spend now to save in the future.

So will Adebayor remain at the Emirates for next season? According to La Gazzetta, it is only a matter of a decision from Berlusconi, yet I somehow think it is a bit more than this. Surely Wenger won’t freely allow Adebayor, last seasons top scorer, to leave so easily, especially with only youngster Vela and recovering Eduardo his alternatives.

Thoughts?

Milan president reiterates Shevchenko interest

by sub on March 7th, 2008 no comments

The BBC reports that Ac Milan are keen to re-sign Ukrainian international striker Andriy Shevchenko from Chelsea in the summer. It quotes the Milan president Silvio Berlusconi as saying that they are looking at the option of signing back the player whom they sold to the London club in the summer of 2006 for a staggering £30 million.

But Sheva’s form at Stamford Bridge has swayed between woeful and mediocrity and Berlusconi believes that the player ought to return to Milan to resurrect himself. He says:

Shevchenko is a player who is ready to help and he would be the ideal solution.

I do not think Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich will have a problem in letting him go.

I think regularly about Shevchenko and I often speak to him.

The fans would understand that this would be the ideal choice for us.

Maybe Sheva should return to Milan. But last month the player himself admitted that he is happy to fight at Chelsea and that although he still loves Mian, he doesn’t want to go back to the fashion capital of the world.

AC Milan to keep Alberto Gilardino

by sub on January 20th, 2008 no comments

Alberto Gilardino was once considered the next big thing in Italian football and for three years he did do enough to keep the flame of hope and optimism burning. But this is the second season running when a string of injuries married to poor form has raised questions on his class and Italian press rumours suggest that Ac Milan would be more than happy to offload the player in the summer.

Yet Milan President Silvio Berlusconi is not one buying the press reports. Sky Sports quotes the former Italian Prime Minister and virtual owner of Milan as saying that Gilardino will stay with the club come what may.

Selling Alberto Gilardino? Never. You have not got to follow what’s in the papers.

Gilardino’s future is uncertain at Milan since Brazilian wonder kid Alexandre Pato has sensationally endeared himself to the Milan fans in his debut against Napoli last week and is being hailed as the source of solution for Milan in attack. Berlusconi has also declared that Milan will see a massive revamp of the squad in the summer and that means subtracting the surplus and liabilities from the equation.

Silvio Berlusconi: We want to sign Zambrotta

by sub on January 13th, 2008 no comments

Ac Milan are certain to revamp their squad in the summer after blowing their Italian Serie A title hopes once again this season. Club President Silvio Berlusconi has publicly said that he is looking to add new faces to the side and has named one or two players too.

Goal.com reports that Berlusconi is eager to import FC Barcelona right back Gianluca Zambrotta who is unhappy with life in the Catalan capital and who is looking for move back to Italy. Last week press reports linked him to his former club Juventus and although the player is certain to leave Camp Nou soon, it is not exactly clear when he will do so.

Berlusconi said:

Zambrotta would be a good resource for the future because we will have to cover certain roles. We are focusing on young people though, and we must not forget the likes of Marzoratti, Matri, Borriello and Pozzi.

Berlusconi declares that the Italian World Cup winner is on the Milan shopping list but doubts whether he can acquire his services in January. He is confident though he can get the player to sign for Milan in the summer. After all, Milan have all the money and the charm in the world to do so.

AC Milan gunnning for a £100 million revamp in the summer

by sub on January 13th, 2008 1 comment

Ac Milan certainly need a facelift and club president Silvio Berlusconi is now gearing up to do so in the summer. Milan might have notched up the UEFA Champions League silverware last season and the World Club Cup last month but as far as the Italian Serie A is concerned, the Rossonerri are in utter shambles.

Goal.com quotes the Italian sports daily Corriere dello Sport in its reports stating that Milan are to embark on a £100 million revamp of the squad in the summer with star names such as Ronaldinho and Gianluca Zambrotta appearing into the equation.

Milan have been chasing the Brazilian ace since last season when his form took a dip and which has since failed to rise. With Ronaldinho’s mysterious absence from the FC Barcelona training session, both Spanish and Italian press reports are at one in condemning Ronaldinho to a summer move. And Milan are the best bet for Ronnie.

Milan are also the hot favorites to sign another Barcelona misfit Zambrota. The player and his wife are stated to be unhappy with life in Catalonia and are looking to make a move back to native Italy.

Other players lined in at the San Siro for next season include Willy Sagnol, Andrea Dossena, Luka Modric and Kim Kallstrom. A few other big names should also crop up towards the tail-end of the season. That Milan need a change in their squad has no iota of doubt smearing it.
