Liverpool close in on £35m superstar: This would be an incredible signing!

If this rumour has any basis in fact then Liverpool fans should be very excited indeed!

Man Utd have decided to fight back against Real Madrid by going after their players including Ramos and Robinho, however Man Utd will not have a free run at Sergio Ramos, Liverpool will also bid if it is confirmed that Real Madrid will listen to offers.

Ramos has made it clear that he would be interested in a move to the Premiership with Man Utd being the obvious destination but Rafa Benitez is ready to step in for the Spanish international defender.

Liverpool are short of funds, however the board have made it clear that if Benitez comes to them with a very good deal they will provide the finance and a defender of Sergio Ramos stature would certainly justify the spend.

Man Utd probably do not need Ramos and are playing games now with Real Madrid but in doing so they may have inadvertantly opened the door anyway for Ramos to leave Madrid.

Liverpool have been associated with a few players recently and most are targets like Villa as an example but those purchases would be dependent on Benitez selling sone of his surplus, Ramos however would be considered an exception because Liverpool are without doubt in need of some new top class defenders. £35m rated Sergio Ramos is a phenomenal player, who at just 22 has an astounding amount of potential. He can play in a number of positions but has become pretty damn great in all of them, from full back to centre back although as defensive midfielder he has excelled in the past season. Obviously such a move does come down to money and that will be the main issue this summer when Benitez draws up the list of talent he wants to bring in, then its down to the current owners , or prospective owners to help finance the next step in the clubs evolution. Do Liverpool fans like the idea of signing Ramos, should the club push on with such huge deals, deals that United and Chelsea regularly stump up the cash for? Or should Rafa concentrate on smaller priced gems like Dossena and freebie Degen?
