Arsenal & England wunderkid Theo Walcott back in the U-21’s? Eh?!?

Theo Walcott, England and Arsenal’s nippy little slice of brilliance, could be slumming it in the U-21’s if evil man Stuart Pearce has his way…

According to The S*n, Pearcey has a cunning plan:

“Coach Pearce, preparing for next Friday’s European Under-21 Championship play-off first leg against Wales, wants to use Gunners star Walcott, 19, if the Three Lions qualify for next year’s tournament in Sweden.” (The S*n)

Admittedly, it looks tempting, but there is a reason a 15-year old Pele wasn’t hauled back into a Brazilian youth side. Similarly, our very own precocious genius Wayne Rooney wasn’t forced to do time with the U-21’s after proving himself with the full side. Once you’ve played well with the big boys, it’s probably a tad difficult to motivate yourself for an U-21 game, which must resemble a jumpers for goalposts-style kickabout in comparison. Arsenal gaffer Arsene Wenger concurs:

“It’s difficult for Theo to be completely focused on the Under-21s once he has gone into the senior team. All past cases I’ve seen haven’t worked.”

So….anyone think that poor mild mannered Theo should be forced into the U-21’s?
