Spanish midfielder waiting for right moment before deciding his future.
Xabi Alonso is refusing to be pressed into making a decision about his Real Madrid future, according to Goal.com.
The Spanish midfielder’s contract with the Spanish giants is set to expire at the end of next season and Madrid are reportedly keen to convince the player to commit his future to the club.
But Alonso has far displayed no intentions of putting pen to paper on a new deal and that is causing concern amongst the club’s officials that Alonso could be planning an exit from the Spanish capital.
Alonso’ father, Periko, has insisted his son has not yet made a decision about his future and does not want to be rushed into anything.
‘What he wants to do is to wait a bit to see what happens and how things go, and then, when the time is right, he’ll make the appropriate decision,’ said Periko Alonso.
‘It’s as simple as that – there’s nothing else to it.’
Alonso has been linked with a return to Liverpool. Alonso starred for the club for a number of years before joining Real Madrid and it is thought Merseyside still has a special place in his heart.
Brendan Rodgers has expressed his admiration for Alonso in the past and it is thought that the Anfield boss believes the player would be perfectly suited to the club’s high energy, passing style of football.
Alonso’s first club, Real Sociedad, are also thought to be keen on securing the player’s services.
