Wigan will be recruiting vikings this summer.Roberto Martinez will delve into the Scandinavian transfer market this summer in a bid to strengthen his Wigan Athletic side.
A report on Sky Sports suggests that Copenhagen striker Andreas Cornelius, Nordsjaelland defender Jores Okore and Aalborg forward Nicklas Helenius are all players that the club will be running the rule over in the coming months.
However, Martinez refuses to get carried away and wants to secure the club’s Premier League status before he draws up a definitive shortlist.
After having success in the Central and South American market, as well as the Spanish market, Martinez has expressed his wariness in signing Danish players, citing past failures as a cause for concern.
“I’ve tried to sign Danish players several times before but, due to different reasons, I’ve yet to be successful in doing so,” he said.
“I don’t want to name names of specific players out of respect for the respective clubs involved.”
But despite his caution, he also spelled out his admiration for their style of play and outlined his hopes for greater success in acquiring talented Dane: “I am crazy about the Danish mentality towards attacking football, so I hope that we can be luckier in our hunt in the future.”
Wigan sealed their place in the FA Cup final last weekend but are currently three points adrift of safety in the relegation zone.
