Former Chelsea and Liverpool boss set to take over Serie A giants.
Rafael Benitez looks set for a return to Italy according to Tuttosport. The interim Chelsea manager has reportedly been spotted meeting Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis in London to have talks over taking over the reins at the Serie A side.
Napoli fans were recently rocked by the news that current boss Walter Mazzarri will not be in charge of the side for next season.
Mazzarri has enjoyed four impressive years at the club but feels he has taken them as far as he can.
That has prompted a search for a new manager with Benitez reportedly top of the Italian club’s list despite enduring a disappointing period in charge of Inter Milan.
Benitez has regained the respect of some in the game after successfully navigating Chelsea to Europa League glory.
Should Benitez arrive at Napoli, one of his first jobs will be to resolve the future of star striker Edinson Cavani.
The player has been heavily linked with a move away from the club after it was revealed he has a £60 million release fee in his contract.
The likes of Real Madrid, PSG and Benitez’s current employers Chelsea are all thought to be interested in the player but the Spanish boss will be hoping to persuade Cavani to commit to Napoli for at least one more season.
