Arsenal given hope in signing of Real Madrid striker.
Arsenal may still be in the driving seat to land Gonzalo Higuain from Real Madrid, with the Daily Express reporting that the striker has not held talks with Juventus.
The Argentine has been a target for a number of top European clubs this summer, after it emerged that Real Madrid had put him up for sale for around £22million.
Despite Higuain’s impressive goal scoring record for the club, Real are keen to sell some squad players this summer and rebuild the squad that failed to adequately challenge rivals Barcelona for the La Liga title.
Arsenal have shown a strong interest as they search for a new striker, while Manchester City, Tottenham and Juventus have also considered offers for the 25-year-old.
Juventus then looked like the favourites to sign him, though the player’s agent and brother Nicholas Higuain says these stories are untrue.
“There is nothing done yet with Juve,” he said. “Player rights are Real Madrid and the first thing we need to do is to meet with the club.
“What is missing, then? First, the above meeting to certify what seems an open secret, but official: that Madrid want to let the player if there is a good deal. Unless Carlo Ancelotti come and tell you otherwise, it doesn’t appear.”
The likes of Angel Di Maria and Fabio Coentrao may also be available this summer, as the Spanish giants look to raise the money to launch a massive bid for Tottenham star Gareth Bale.
Higuain arrived at the Bernebeu in 2006 and has scored 120 goals in 264 games for the club.
