Spanish giants to hijack City bid for Napoli star.
Real Madrid will attempt to hijack Manchester City’s bid to sign Napoli star striker Edinson Cavani, according to the Sun.
The Uruguayan is one of the most sought-after players in world football at the moment, with the likes of Chelsea and PSG also monitoring his situation this summer.
Manchester City looked like being the favourites to sign the 26-year-old, but it now appears that Spanish giants Real Madrid have upped their offer to Napoli, as they look to strengthen for next season.
Real have been linked with a host of big names this summer, such as Tottenham’s Gareth Bale, as they hope to wrestle the Spanish league title off rivals Barcelona next year.
City also lost out on their domestic title this season, and are planning a summer of big spending to challenge Manchester United next season. A striker is said to be high on the agenda, with the likes of Radamel Falcao and Gonzalo Higuain also being linked with moves to the Etihad Stadium.
Cavani has scored 104 goals in just 138 games for Napoli since joining the club from Palermo in 2010.
