German striker set for move to Italy.
Bayern Munich striker Mario Gomez is set to be subject to a bid from Napoli according to Kicker.
The Italian side recently welcome Rafa Benitez to the club who will take over from the Inter Milan-bound Walter Mazzarri.
It appears that one of Benitez’s first signings is set to be German striker Gomez. The forward has reportedly become disillusioned with life in Bavaria this season after finding himself increasingly out of favour.
Croatian striker Mario Mandzukic has often been preferred up front for the club and Gomez is keen to secure first team football with next year’s World Cup in Brazil just around the corner.
It is thought Gomez’s chances of first team football are likely to be even slimmer next year with Bayern set to appoint former Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola.
The Spaniard’s style of football requires fast, mobile players going forward and that has persuaded Gomez to try his luck elsewhere.
Gomez’s arrival could further spark speculation regarding the future of Uruguayan striker Edinson Cavani.
The Napoli player is one of the hottest properties in world football at the moment and should Gomez arrive at the club, it would be widely understood as for the purpose of replacing Cavani rather than playing alongside him.
