Barcelona will not sign a new goalkeeper if Victor Valdes keeps to his current plan of leaving next summer when his contract runs out according to Marca.

The Spanish goalkeeper told the club of his plans last week and Barca will not make any changes in the goalkeeping department this summer, leaving that until the end of next season when Valdes contract runs out.

Barcelona had been expecting to have to sign a new goalkeeper because of speculation surrounding Valdes but now that the Spanish goalkeeper is staying for one more year, Barca can focus on signing a central defender.

No offers had been received for Valdes despite intense speculation that super rich AS Monaco and Arsenal were interested in signing the Spanish shot stopper.

Those clubs may still test Barcelona’s resolve in trying to hang onto their number one goalkeeper but speculation has ceased since Valdes announcement last week.

Barcelona can now move onto trying to sign a central defender, the clubs number 1 priority this summer.

With Barcelona having spent £48 million on striker Neymar, the Catalan club are short of money so they need to raise it through player sales.

Barcelona had been linked with Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels during last season.
