Real Madrid are set to change their point of focus in terms of Premier League targets as the Bernabeu side opt to pursue Chelsea playmaker Juan Mata over their ongoing chase for Tottenham winger Gareth Bale according to the Metro.

Re-elected Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has been put off by Tottenham’s high valuation of 23 year old Welsh international Bale and will now look to make a £30m bid for Spaniard Mata.

The Spanish press has stated the belief that Jose Mourinho would consider selling the 25 year old Blues star, which would seem incredible given the form Mata has displayed over the course of his two seasons at Stamford Bridge.

This source states that Mourinho may be forced to sell star players in order to beef up his transfer budget, and that too seems a little far fetched given that Roman Abramovich is more than happy to splash the cash at any available opportunity and would surely expect to offer significant funds to any new manager.

Mata finished last term as the Premier League’s leading assist maker and provided 28 assists in total in all competitions and also weighed in with 20 goals in a phenomenal season on an individual level, helping Rafa Benitez’s side secure an all important top four finish as well as the Europa League title.

It would be a major surprise if the West London club even considered offers for a player who is so pivotal to their attacking plans, not least because the diminutive flair player has worked so well alongside the likes of Eden Hazard and Oscar.
