Aston Villa are reportedly targeting a move for Real Madrid backup goalkeeper Jesus Fernandez, according to talkSPORT.

The 25-year-old is some way down the pecking order at the Bernabeu, with Iker Casillas and Diego Lopez to compete with for a place in the team, and he could be tempted by a move to gain more first-team football.

Villa manager Paul Lambert is understood to be considering moves for a new goalkeeper this summer, with veteran Shay Given likely to leave the club after becoming dissatisfied as a backup player, and first-choice Brad Guzan being linked with a move to West Ham.

Even if Guzan stays, Lambert would ideally like to have Fernandez as a backup option at Villa Park. The Spaniard would be a decent cheap option for the club, though it may be something of a concern that he has only ever made two appearances for the senior Real Madrid team.

This is unsurprising given the competition ahead of him, but his lack of top-level experience could make the Premier League something of a hefty step up for him.

Villa struggled with relegation for much of last season, arguably due to an over-reliance on young and untested players, and could do with moving for players of more experience ahead of next season.
