Jose Mourinho dropped a hint that Chelsea would be interested in signing Wayne Rooney should he become available according to the Daily Express.

Chelsea are in the market for a striker this summer and are heavily linked with moves for Napoli’s Edison Cavani, Zenith St Petersburg’s Hulk and Manchester City’s Edin Dzeko.

However, the club are also looking into the situation involving Wayne Rooney, who is set to have talks over his future with new Manchester United boss David Moyes.

When asked about Rooney, Mourinho said ““It’s up to him what he wants, what makes him happy. He’s a bit like me: he doesn’t need one more pound on his contract. One more cup won’t make a difference”.

Rooney has been increasingly unsettled at Old Trafford since he was left on the bench against Mourinho’s old club, Real Madrid, in the Champions League game at Old Trafford in March.

He asked former boss Sir Alex Ferguson if he could leave at the end of last season, citing that he needed a fresh start with a different club.

Since then, Ferguson has retired and been replaced by Rooney’s former boss David Moyes, sparking hope at Old Trafford that the Scot can persuade Rooney to stay.

Rooney has also attracted the interest of big spending French clubs Paris St Germain and AS Monaco.
