Spanish giants begin talks over Uruguayan striker.
Real Madrid are ready to join the battle for Napoli’s Uruguayan striker Edinson Cavani according to The Guardian.
The forward is currently one of the most sought after players in Europe after a number of highly impressive seasons for the Serie A side.
Cavani’s goals fired Napoli to second in the Italian league while he also collected the Serie A golden boot.
But the club know they have a battle on their hands to keep hold of him after club President Aurelio Di Lauerntiis confirmed Cavani has a minimum fee release clause in his contract.
It is thought that a bid in excess of £55 million would be sufficient to force Napoli into talks.
Chelsea are thought to have been in touch with Napoli over a potential deal for Cavani but it is understood that the two sides have so far failed to agree on terms.
That could pave the way for Real Madrid to swoop in with the Spanish giants firm admirers of the player.
Cavani has previously expressed a desire to play in La Liga and that could give Real Madrid the upper hand in any negotiations.
Nothing will be decided for at least another few weeks though as Cavani is currently on Confederations Cup duty with Uruguay.
