Southampton have completed the signing of Celtic midfielder Victor Wanyama for a reported £12.5 million, Sky Sports reports.

The midfielder has signed a four year deal with the Saints and the £12.5 million that Southampton paid is a club record.

Wanyama spent two highly successful seasons at Celtic following his £900,000 move from Belgium club Beerschot and scored 10 goals during his time with the Scottish Champions.

Speculation has been mounting all season about Wanyama’s future in Scotland, with many Premier League clubs said to be interested in the highly rated midfielder.

Wanyama made several eye catching performances during this seasons Champions League and played a key role in the club beating Barcelona at Celtic Park during the group stages.

After two years at Scotland, Wanyama has said that he pleased to be playing in Premier League and looks forward to starting his career at Southampton.

“Southampton is a good club and it has good players, so I just want to train hard and work hard to be a part of the starting XI. We’ll see where that will take me,” said Wanyama.

“I’m very grateful to be here and I’m looking forward to playing in the Premier League”.

The signing of the highly rated Wanyama is a real show of strength from Southampton as the club looks to build from a successful first season back in the Premier League.
