Napoli’s president Aurelio De Laurentiis has confirmed that the club are in talks to sign Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain and Internacional front-man Leandro Damiao, Goal.com reports.

The Italian club recently sold star striker Edinson Cavani to Paris St Germain for £54 million and they are set to use that money to sign the attacking duo.

Higuain has long been linked with a move to Arsenal, however the Gunners interest has waned slightly over the past few days as they step up their interest in Liverpool striker Luis Suarez.

This has left Napoli in pole position to sign the Argentine front-man, and the club are also in talks with Internacional to sign their highly rated striker Leandro Damiao.

De Laurentiis announced on Twitter that Napoli were in talks to sign the two front men and also revealed that the club are close to signing Raul Albiol, who is currently having a medical with the club.

New Napoli boss Rafa Benitez is keen to bolster his squad for the forthcoming season and the club have already signed attackers Jose Callejon and Dries Mertens as well as goalkeeper Rafael.
