Spanish giants are intent of securing one big-money transfer before the new season.
Real Madrid will turn their attentions towards unsettled Liverpool front man Luis Suarez if they miss out on their first choice target of the summer, Tottenham Hotspur playmaker Gareth Bale, reports The Sunday Times.
The Spanish giants are said to be desperate to land a marquee signing before the transfer window slams shut once and for all for the year on Sept 2 in response to arch-rivals FC Barcelona’s recent £50 million capture of Santos star Neymar.
Los Blancos have made Tottenham’s coveted Wales international their No 1 target, with Madrid president Florentino Perez understood to be prepared to go as high as £70m in order to lure the 23-year-old winger to the Santiago Bernabeu this summer.
However, if the north London club continue to be as stubborn in negotiations as they are proving to be at present, with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy reportedly already having rejected one big-money offer for Bale, then Madrid will shift their focus towards the Liverpool forward instead.
And the Liga outfit are said to be confident that the Uruguay international, who has registered 51 goals and 24 assists in just 96 matches for the Reds since January 2011, would prefer a move to the Spanish capital rather than joining Arsenal, and that his club too would also rather sell to an overseas club than a domestic rival.
