Club perform U-turn over midfielders services

The midfielder who stood out for the Red and White in a season that ended in a disappointing second from bottom finish, explains how he was all set to sign a new contract, when the club brought negotiations to a standstill.

Speaking to The World Game, Garcia said:At the moment I’m not too sure what’s going to happen with me,Negotiations are on hold so I’m looking for a club, really.

“We were in the middle of negotiations which were going well and then I think they had to reschedule their budget and I believe they also tried to sign another player in another position.

“So I’m still waiting for them to come back with another offer, but I can’t afford to wait around for them to make up their mind.”

The-31-year-old attacking midfielder, scored six times for Heart last season, playing 24 games.

John Aloisi has signed midfielders Harry Kewell and Massimo Murdocca, indicating that time may be running out in Melbourne for the former West Ham, Colchester and Hull City man.

After being voted Hearts player of the season last Campaign, Garcia was always hoping to return to the AAMI stadium: “from my point of view it was always a case of ‘when’ I was returning to Melbourne not ‘if’.

”But the about-turn became a spanner in the works and it all happened because apparently they had an opportunity to sign another player.

”But that’s football, I know the business … and now I’m back to square one”

The midfielder is all too aware he needs to be playing regular football this season, if he is to have any chance of adding to his 18 Socceroo caps at the World Cup.

“I’ve got to make sure I’m playing at a decent level this coming season, because playing in Brazil is one of my main goals”
