Orange general agrees terms with the Red and White

Melbourne Heart have added another seasoned international to their ranks

After bringing in Harry Kewell,Heart Coach John Aloisi has added some steel to his central midfield with the addition of Orlando Engelaar.

Engelaar,33, is a Dutch international and was at the heart of the International side when the Orange memorably dispatched France, Italy and Romania in Euro 2008.

The midfielder comes to Heart after four years at PSV Eindhoven, as well as stints at FC Twente and Bundesliga side Schalke.

Speaking to Football Australia, Aloisi was impressed with the quality of his new signing.

“I am confident that Orlando will be one of the most accomplished midfielders that has come to play football in Australia.

“The Club has worked hard for a number of seasons to attract a player who can dominate and control matches from midfield and we believe that we have found that player.

“You don’t pull the strings in the midfield for the Dutch national team unless you have some special qualities. We can’t wait for the season to get started and, with this signing, we believe that we have given football fans something to get really excited about.”

With the first game of the season being the Melbourne Derby Engelaar will immediately have a platform on which to perform.
