Club will not risk star man getting injured.
Wantaway Tottenham Hotspur playmaker Gareth Bale will not feature for the north Londoners in their final pre-season friendly of the summer against Liga outfit Espanyol at White Hart Lane on Saturday afternoon amid continuing rumours about his future at the club, reports the Independent.
The in-demand Wales international is currently the subject of much interest from Spanish giants Real Madrid, who have been keeping close tabs on the 24-year-old throughout the close-season transfer window with a view to bringing Bale to the Santiago Bernabeu next season.
However so far, despite lodging a word-record bid worth £87 million for the wide man, los Blancos are still to reach an agreement with their Premier League counterparts for the player.
But it is expected that negotiations will continue in Miami on Tuesday following Madrid’s friendly against Chelsea, with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy and majority shareholder Joe Lewis both expected to meet with the Liga outfit’s president Florentino Perez for face-to-face talks.
And as a result, Tottenham will not risk Bale, who scored 26 goals in just 44 matches for the club last season, against Espanyol this weekend for fear of the Welshman picking up an injury that puts in doubt any potential move to the Spanish capital.
