Southampton outcast, and Celtic target, Billy Sharp is looking to move on from his torrid time at Saint Mary’s after failing to reclaim a place in the first team due to impressive performances from Jay Rodriguez, Rickie Lambert and Gaston Ramirez according to the Daily Star.

It is thought Scottish Premier League champions Celtic are eyeing an approach for the 27 year-old following the recent departure of English forward Gary Hooper – who has the 2014 World Cup in his sights.

Sharp’s agent, James Featherstone, recently spoke to the Daily Star following his client being left out of both the Saints’ pre-season tours of Spain and Austria.

“It is a bit of a difficult one at the minute,” Featherstone said.

“He has been pre-season training with Southampton, working hard, and obviously he wants to try and force his way into the team. With him being out on loan last season and a new manager coming in, he wants to try to force his way into the team.”

James went on to add, “he wants to play football, he doesn’t just want to sit out the last two years of his contract.”

“But if he doesn’t get an opportunity at Southampton and it is getting close to transfer deadline day at the end of August, or when the loan window opens back up a couple of weeks after, we will have to start making a decision about what is best for Billy.”

It is also reported that Championship outlet Doncaster Rovers are interested in taking their former star back, but have already had a loan bid rejected by the Premier League side.
