Spanish side desperate to hold on to former Liverpool star.
Real Madrid have offered midfielder Xabi Alonso a one year extension to his current deal as they look to ward off potential interest from Chelsea according to Spanish newspaper AS.
The La Liga club are growing increasingly concerned that Alonso could be tempted to follow his former boss Jose Mourinho to Chelsea and are pulling out all the stops to persuade him his future lies at the Bernabeu.
Alonso has just one year remaining on his current deal and has so far refused to speculate over whether he will remain with the Spanish giants.
Madrid are already making contingency plans in case Alonso does decide to leave the club by signing Asier Illarramendi from Real Sociedad.
But that may prompt Alonso to decide his future is better served elsewhere as he now occupies a squad containing Luka Modric, Sami Khedira and Casemiro all in his position.
There have been few reports coming out of Chelsea regarding the matter, with Jose Mourinho having previously stated that Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney was his only summer transfer target.
But it may well be that the Portuguese boss decides to make a move for Alonso in order to stamp his mark on the Chelsea team.
