Chelsea are considering an audacious summer swoop for Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira, reports Marca.

The German midfielder is unsure of the season ahead at Real Madrid as he pushes for a regular place in the heavily contested German midfield for the upcoming World Cup, and former manager Jose Mourinho wants to bring Khedira to Chelsea with him. Madrid are willing to let Khedira go for the right price this summer.

Having signed Asier Illarramendi from Real Sociedad, Isco from Malaga and Casemiro from Sao Paulo, Madrid’s midfield has become congested and the 26-year old has become surplus to requirements at the Bernebeu. Chelsea wish to bring in Khedira this summer to reinforce their midfield which is equally strife with competition.

Khedira would be a likely replacement for John Obi Mikel, with the Nigerian international being heavily linked with a move away this summer, as big-spending Ligue 1 new-boys Monaco lining up a bid for him, as well as Turkish duo Galatasaray and Trabzonspor both keen on signing Mikel this summer. Chelsea are willing to let him go if they can bring in a replacement, with Khedira mentioned.

The German would strengthen the deeper midfield role in Chelsea’s 4-2-3-1 formation, alongside the likes of Ramires, Frank Lampard and perhaps David Luiz, as Chelsea prepare themselves for a title challenge.
