Tottenham have been alerted by the availability of Real Madrid wing-back Fabio Coentrao, according to Spanish source El Confidencial.

The Portuguese international has been linked with a move to Tottenham this summer, potentially as part of a potential deal to sign Gareth Bale, but according to sources in Spain, Madrid are willing to sell Coentrao for as little as €15million this summer. Chelsea have also been reportedly keeping tabs on his situation at the Bernabeu.

Having cost Madrid nearly €25million to sign him from Benfica, Coentrao could be set for a move away this summer, amid reports manager Carlo Ancelotti has eyed up a replacement, Granada’s Guilherme Siqueira in a €7million deal. Tottenham are keen on upgrading their left-back situation, but will only move for Coentrao if they sell Bale to Madrid.

Madrid are pushing hard for Bale, but Daniel Levy is standing firm on his £100million asking price for the Welsh superstar. Madrid may offer Coentrao to sweeten the deal for Spurs, bringing the fee down towards £80million. Madrid are exploring other options to the 25-year old wing-back, with Dennis Cheryshev seeing playing time at left-back.

Spurs’ interest hinges on any potential Gareth Bale movement, but the clubs are at a stalemate regarding his transfer. Bale can play left-back and left-wing, meaning he can even replace Coentrao entirely at Madrid. Spurs need competition for Benoit Assou-Ekotto, who isn’t up to their standards, and has reportedly been made available for £5million this summer.
