Newly appointed Manchester United boss David Moyes has switched his attentions from Barcelona star Cesc Fabregas to Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric, as he desperately looks to complete a ‘big’ signing to silence his early doubters according to the Guardian.

The former Tottenham ace has failed to impress in Spain following his big money move from White Hart Lane to the Spanish capital. Due to his original move being £33million, Real refuse to make a huge loss on the 27 year-old and are already demanding at least £25million for the Croatian international – despite a poor campaign last season.

It is thought Moyes is eyeing a goalscoring midfielder this summer as a priority as Tom Cleverley, Darren Fletcher and Anderson don’t quite meet the standards set by Real Madrid and Barcelona. Earlier in the window it was reported the Red Devils were set to secure a deal bringing Spanish midfielder Thiago to Old Trafford, but days later the 22 year-old penned a five-year deal with European champions Bayern Munich.

Another player currently being eyed by the former Everton boss is his ex-colleague – Marouane Fellaini – who had a successful campaign for the Toffee’s last time out. It is thought Sevilla defensive midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia is lined up as a potential alternative if United fail in their attempts to sign their midfield targets.

Kondogbia has recently attracted interest from Arsenal and Chelsea due to his low release clause [thought to be around €10million] and his successful campaign with the French under 20s this summer.
