Old Trafford striker confident of sealing Stamford Bridge switch.
Wayne Rooney has reportedly informed his Man United team-mates that he will be joining Chelsea this summer according to ESPN.
Chelsea have already launched two formal bids for the 27 year old, who appears very keen to leave Old Trafford, but both were turned down flat by a Man United side who may well not want to sell the club’s fourth highest goal-scorer of all time, or perhaps just not for the sums that have been offered by the West London side.
Apparent injuries have prevented Rooney from taking part in any of Man United’s pre-season friendlies, save for a behind closed doors match against Real Betis, and it does seem hard to imagine that the England man could force his way back in to the club’s ‘good books’ having seemingly told Sir Alex Ferguson last season that he wanted to leave the club, only to deny such an accusation some weeks later.
Indeed Rooney is sure to have taken comments made by David Moyes relating to his less prominent role in first team affairs as something of an insult and the relationship between the club’s new manager, the club’s senior players and the former Everton striker have hit an all time low and it appears that Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is waiting patiently to see how things pan out.
Though Mourinho has invested wisely in youngsters Andre Schurrle and Marco van Ginkel as well as veteran Aussie keeper Mark Schwarzer the returning Blues manager is yet to bring in what you might term a ‘Marquee’ signing and Chelsea could well do with a prolific marksman spearheading their attack and Rooney may well be the ideal man to do the job.
