Arsenal and Chelsea could be set to battle in out for Bayern Munich midfielder Luiz Gustavo after the clubs chief executive Karl-Heinz-Rummenigge revealed that several big clubs are interested in signing the Brazilian, the Daily Star reports.
The midfielder looks set to leave the Allianz Arena this summer having fallen down the pecking order at Bayern following the arrival of Thiago Alcantara from Barcelona.
New Bayern manager Pep Guardiola is known to rate Thiago and has used him in midfield for many of the clubs pre-season friendlies, meaning Gustavo won’t have many opportunities to play in the first team if he stays with the European Champions.
Wolfsburg were thought to be front-runners in the race to sign Gustavo but Rummenigge has revealed that the midfielder would like to move to a club that is playing in the Champions League and says that several big clubs want the Brazilian.
“Big clubs are interested in him.” said Rummenigge.
“The question is whether Luiz wants to join a club that will sadly not even play [in Europe] next season, or if he wants greater things.”
Both Arsenal and Chelsea want to sign a holding midfielder this summer and could be ready to offer Bayern £15 million for the Brazilian, who desperately wants first team football next season so that he can be a part of Brazil’s squad for next summers World Cup.
