Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas has refused to comment on current speculation linking Gareth Bale with a move to Real Madrid, Sky Sports reports.
Bale hasn’t featured much throughout Spurs pre-season, mainly due to a muscle injury but that has also heighten speculation that he maybe poised to move to the Spanish capital.
Reports suggest that Real Madrid are prepared to smash the current transfer record in order to land Bale, possibly paying as much as £100 million for the talented Welsh winger.
Villas-Boas didn’t want to comment about Bale’s future following the Spurs 1-1 draw against Espanyol but did say that the winger will link up with the Welsh national squad next week.
Villas-Boas said: “The only thing I can say about the stories is I am not going to comment because everybody has speculated a lot. There are some different stories, some which are not true, with people inventing without knowledge of what is going on”.
“He has been called up for his national team [for a friendly match against the Republic of Ireland], our medical department is going to be in contact with the Wales medical department to make sure they have everything available in terms of giving information on how the player has been doing in these last week”.
The winger is thought to be keen on a move to Real Madrid but is willing to stay at White Hart Lane for at least another season if a deal can’t be agreed between the two clubs.
