The former Villa striker thinks Arsene Wenger should forget about signing Luis Suarez and instead make a move for the talented Aston Villa front man.
Former Aston Villa striker Tony Cascarino thinks Arsenal should forget about signing Luis Suarez and instead concentrate on signing the Premier League’s in form front man, Christian Benteke, Goal.com reports.
Suarez was Arsenal’s main transfer target this summer but after the Gunners Champions League tie with Fenerbache, manager Arsene Wenger claimed that the club have given up in their pursuit of the Uruguayan.
Wenger is determined to add some quality players to his squad before the transfer window closes on September 2nd and Cascarino thinks Benteke should be right at the top of the Frenchman’s shopping list.
“How no one’s bought him I don’t know,” he told Goal. “At the end of last season I thought he’d be the hottest-pursued player of the summer. I keep thinking ‘Am I missing something?’
“If I was Arsene Wenger I’d forget about £40 million for Luis Suarez – I’d bid £40m for Benteke, straight away.”
Benteke submitted a transfer request at Villa earlier in the summer in an attempt to force through a move to Tottenham.
The Belgian then withdrew his transfer request and signed a new deal with Villa, keeping him at the club until 2017.
Despite signing a new deal, interest in Benteke has risen over the past couple of weeks following his exceptional displays in Villa’s Premier League games with Arsenal and Chelsea.
