Emirates Stadium side plot ambitious Bernabeu raid.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is reportedly considering a £38million offer for Real Madrid midfielder Mesut Ozil according to The Sun.
The German international has been repeatedly linked with a surprise switch to the Premier League in recent weeks with Real set to splash out a world-record transfer fee on Tottenham’s Gareth Bale who is expected to be revealed as a Madrid player in the coming days.
And that could see Ozil struggling for regular playing time at the Bernabeu as he fights with Spanish starlet Isco for the central attacking midfield role with arrival of the Welsh international set to oust him from his usual right-wing position.
The Gunners are becoming increasingly desperate to spend some of Wenger’s reported £70m transfer budget and have been linked with a whole host of players in recent days including Ozil’s team-mates Angel Di Maria and Karim Benzema.
But with no sign of either player arriving at the Emirates anytime soon despite reported interest, Wenger could now have shifted his attentions towards Ozil instead.
He would be a popular choice for the Emirates Stadium faithful who are craving a marquee signing to show that club can still compete at the top of the European game.
However if the sparkling midfielder is made available for sale by the La Liga side, Arsenal are likely to face competition from Chelsea and Manchester United who both have some interest in recruiting the 24-year-old playmaker.
Wenger is expected to return with an improved bid for Newcastle midfielder Yohan Cabaye after they saw an initial £10m bid knocked back as he tries to strengthen his squad before the transfer deadline on September 2.
