The talented attacking midfielder thinks Napoli can challenge Juventus for the Serie A title this year, having finished as runners-up to the Old Lady last season.
Napoli midfielder Marek Hamsik is confident that his team can beat Juventus to the Serie A title this season following the clubs 3-0 victory over Bologna on Sunday, Goal.com reports.
Hamsik scored twice in Napoli’s victory, which was the club’s first game of the new Serie A season.
The Slovakian international is full of confidence following Napoli’s successful start to the new season and thinks the Partenopei can pose a threat to Juventus hopes winning Serie A for the third time in a row.
They are favourites, but we will focus only on our games,” the attacking midfielder is quoted as saying by Gazzetta dello Sport.
“But certainly I hope that to have started the season in this way shows we can win something. We’ll put it all on the line; we will give our best”.
Hamsik has established himself as one of Italian football’s most effective midfielders during his time with Napoli and although he has been linked with several high profile clubs this summer, the 26 year old is very happy in Naples.
“I’ve never felt the need to change city,” the 26-year-old insisted. “I don’t want that. I feel loved by fans; I do not need anything else.”
New boss Rafa Benitez has strengthened his side considerably this summer by signing the likes of Gonzalo Higuain and Pepe Reina but he will have to do without Edinson Cavani, who joined PSG for £54 million earlier in the transfer window.
