With Eto’o set to be Jose Mourinho’s first choice striker this season, Torres could face spending the season on the bench if he decides to stay at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea will listen to offers for striker Fernando Torres after the club completed the signing of Samuel Eto’o from Anzhi Makhachkala, the Daily Mirror reports.
Torres is set to fall down the pecking order at Chelsea following the arrival of Eto’o and could face a season on the bench if he remains at Stamford Bridge.
The striker will not only fall behind Eto’o in the Chelsea pecking order but also rising star Roman Lukaku, who has been told that he is still in manager Jose Mourinho’s plans.
Being third choice striker at Stamford Bridge wouldn’t be good for Torres hopes of appearing at next year’s World Cup with Spain so the striker may now accept that his Chelsea career is over and re-start his career at a new club, in same way that international team-mate David Villa did when he moved to Atletico Madrid from Barcelona.
It is rumoured that several clubs in Spain are interested in bringing Torres back to his homeland, including La Liga Champions Barcelona, who want to sign a number 9 to freshen up their attack.
