Arsenal look set to continue their business on transfer deadline day by making a move for Palermo striker Abel Hernandez, the Daily Star reports.

The Gunners are close to completing the signing of Real Madrid play-maker Mesut Ozil for a club record £42.5 million and are also interested in bringing Hernandez to the Emirates for around £15 million.

The 23 year old has made it clear to Palermo that he wants to leave the club and expects to move before the transfer window closes.

“The club and the coach told me that I could leave if the right offer was made and I think that has now arrived,” he told reporters in Italy.

“They know what I want and they know what they promised me.”

Palermo were relegated from Serie A last season and Hernandez has said that he wants to play a bigger club so that he can make Uruguay’s squad for next summer’s World Cup.

Hernandez added: “I don’t want to lose the chance of playing at the World Cup next summer.

“I think playing in Serie A is beautiful, but the desire to be at World Cup 2014 is what has pushed me to ask for a transfer.”

The final day of the transfer window could prove to be a good one for Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, who looks set to add Ozil and Hernandez to his squad whilst a deal for Real Madrid winger Angel Di Maria could also be on the cards.
