Etihad Stadium side plan Bernabeu raid.
Man City are reportedly readying an ‘epic’ swap move that will see the Etihad Stadium side welcome in Real Madrid pair Karim Benzema and Sami Khedira in exchange for Argentine striker Sergio Aguero according to the Daily Star.
The Spanish giants have apparently made the capture of Aguero their number one priority, no doubt hoping to position the 25 year old Man City man up front with Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo offering top quality attacking support for the former Atletico Madrid man.
City’s local rivals Man United are also keen on German midfielder Khedira but Manuel Pellegrini will hope that the lure of Aguero will help to win the race for the tough tackler and Karim Benzema will be seen as a like for like replacement for the Premier League side’s top striking weapon.
Pellegrini hasn’t gotten off to the best of starts as Man City boss, this despite forking out upwards of £100m on five new signings. Two wins from four matches masks a somewhat stuttering beginning to the club’s Premier League campaign but a 3-0 win away to Viktoria Plzen in their Champions League opener does give the club cause for optimism.
Carlo Ancelotti has used Benzema well thus far this season, with the French forward scoring four goals in five matches thus far though perhaps the former PSG boss feels that Aguero would be a better fit.
One does wonder how the addition of Khedira to Pellegrini’s ever expanding central midfield options would work given the £30m invested in Fernandinho.
