Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has placed Real Madrid full-back Fabio Coentrao at the top of the club’s January shopping list according to the Daily Mail.

Though the North London club spent £108m on new signings this summer they also sold players to the tune of over £100m and as such Andre Villas-Boas still has funds to make offers for players he feels will further improve his Tottenham squad.

Portuguese left-back Coentrao was targeted by Tottenham in January but as Real Madrid had failed to bring in an alternative to the 25 year old it appears Carlo Ancelotti was unwilling to sell the former Benfica man.

Fabio Coentrao can play as either a conventional left-back or a more advanced wing-back and may well be available for a fairly reduced fee as the Spanish giants look to cover the costs of what has proved to be a very expensive summer for the La Liga side.

Coentrao moved to the Bernabeu is a massive £25m deal back in July 2011 but will presumably be made available for a fraction of that outlay.
