Arsenal Target £55m Quartet As Arsene Wenger Eyes Major January Additions

Sami Khedira (Real Madrid)

Next on Wenger’s list is Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira, who seems increasingly likely to leave the Bernabeu this January after becoming disillusioned with life in Spain. The experienced German international came close to leaving the club during the summer, with the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United and PSG also interested in signing him, and his time at Real now looks close to an end as his relationship with the management and the club’s fans has soured.

Although a host of clubs will likely move for the 26-year-old this winter, Arsenal may be willing to offer as much as £19m to beat their rivals to this signing, as Wenger is desperate to improve on his defensive midfield options, as they seem overly-reliant on Mathieu Flamini, as evidenced by a drop in their performance without him against Dortmund.

The likes of Lars Bender have also been linked with Arsenal in recent times, but may prove too expensive, while Real will likely let Khedira leave as they seek to remove his disruptive presence and target other signings such as Chelsea star Ramires in that position. Khedira himself is also a good friend of former team-mate Mesut Ozil, and was one of several to be disappointed by his sale this summer.
