Spanish giants could move for German star leading Xabi Alonso to join Chelsea
La Liga giants Real Madrid have secured first refusal on long time Arsenal target Ilkay Gundogan and should they decide to move for the Borussia Dortmund man that could pave the road for Xabi Alonso to join Chelsea, talkSPORT reports.
Spanish newspaper Marca have claimed that the club have reached an agreement with Dortmund chiefs that will allow them to have the priority over whether or not to make an offer for him should Jurgen Klopp’s men decide to listen to offers next summer.
The highly rated German international has become one of Europe’s most sought after players following his excellent, consistent form since joining Borussia from Nuremburg back in 2011.
The deal for the 23-year-old could mean that Nuri Sahin, who is currently on loan with the German side from Madrid, to rejoin the club on a permanent deal in the future.
News of this agreement will come as a huge blow to Arsene Wenger, who considered a move for Gundogan as he looked to bolster his midfield over the summer.
And news of Real’s interest in Gundogan has fuelled speculation that veteran string puller Xabi Alonso could be allowed to walk away from the Bernabeu when his contract expires in the summer.
It is believed that Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is keen to bring him to Stamford Bridge after relying on him so regularly during his time in charge in the Spanish capital.
