With Blues boss Jose Mourinho opting to use John Terry and Gary Cahill as his first choice central defensive partnership it would appear that Brazilian international Luiz could well be offloaded by the West London club.
Luiz has made just five Premier League starts this season, the last coming more than a month ago, and Chelsea are said to be ready to listen to offers of over £41m.
Pep Guardiola is said to be keen on the former Benfica man though it is worth noting that this Allianz Arena side have conceded just seven goals in 14 Bundesliga fixtures this season and therefore have one of the most solid defensive units in European football at present.
Barcelona’s need for a central defender seems more pressing given that Gerardo Martino has had to use Javier Mascherano as a makeshift option as he has just two effective senior options to fill the role, veteran Carles Puyol and Gerard Pique.
Though Luiz is something of a fan favourite at Stamford Bridge he is very error prone and regularly out of position.
Since moving to Chelsea in January 2011 David Luiz has made a total of 120 appearances and has helped the club to Champions League and Europa League triumphs but could well be tempted by a fresh challenge.
