The Spain international is currently spending a season-long loan spell with Serie A giants Napoli, however, despite Reina being contracted to the Reds until June 30 2016, it is not thought likely that the shot stopper will be returning to Anfield next summer though.
As a result, the 31-year-old has been heavily linked with a whole host of big-name clubs of late, including a mooted possible return to former side FC Barcelona, with the La Liga giants known to currently be on the look-out for a new keeper to replace their departing No 1 Victor Valdes.
However, it appears as though Atleti are now also keen to enter the race for Reina, whose father played in goal at the Vincente Calderon during the Seventies, especially with the capital club said to be preparing for the exit of brilliant Belgium international Thibaut Courtois when his loan spell from Chelsea comes to an end in May.
And it is thought likely that the Merseysiders will be asking for a fee somewhere in the region of £4.5 million for the Spaniard.
