With a view to strengthening his defence boss David Moyes continues to track Benfica centre-back Ezequiel Garay, who has impressed over the past 18 months and successfully re-ignited a career that had previously stuttered at Real Madrid.
Moyes will be looking to bring in a new central defensive option in view of Nemanja Vidic’s continuing injury concerns and Rio Ferdinand’s likely exit next summer when his contract comes to a close. Perhaps such a move is further strengthened by the knowledge that Chris Smalling and Phil Jones may be better suited to right-back and defensive midfield duties.
The lack of consistency shown by Nani, Ashley Young and Luis Antonio Valencia may be the reason for a renewed interest in long term target Nicolas Gaitan, another of Benfica’s top performers who is also said to be on David Moyes’s wish-list.
And a third Eagles star, rangy midfielder Nemanja Matic, continues to be a Man United target and a move for the Serbian may well be imminent given the news that Marouane Fellaini is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines with back and wrist complaints.
David Moyes has publicly stated that his side are ready to spend big to bring in some fresh faces and a move for any of these Benfica talents could well be in the offing.
