Allianz Arena boss Pep Guardiola is ready to stump up £20m to bring in the Spanish playmaker and it seems entirely plausible that Chelsea will consider offers for the 25 year old, especially from non-Premier League sides.
The talented attacking midfielder has played a limited role in the Blues first team under Jose Mourinho, starting 11 of the club’s 21 Premier League fixtures, and his angry reaction at being subbed against Southampton may well prove to be the final straw with the Chelsea manager clearly preferring to use Eden Hazard and Oscar as his creative attacking options.
Mata has discussed his future with Chelsea in recent weeks and there was talk of a possible loan move to Atletico Madrid whilst both Napoli and PSG are also said to be keen on the attacker, who won the West London club’s Player of the Year award in each of the past two seasons.
The former Valencia man is perhaps surprised at having to fight for his Chelsea place and this may have had a knock-on affect on his form as Mata has failed to score in the Premier League season and only provided two assists.
£20m doesn’t seem to be a fair price though for a player of Mata’s obvious talents, especially in the current inflated transfer market.
