Midfielder is the latest in a long line of teen sensations to have emerged from Spain in the last few years.
Premier League duo Chelsea and Arsenal will go head to head in the January transfer window in order to win the signature of highly rated young Atletico de Madrid star Saul Niguez, according to reports in the Sunday Mirror.
The Spain Under-21 international is currently shining in La Liga while on loan at Rayo Vallecano, who he was lent to at the beginning of the season after being unable to force his way into Atletico’s starting lineup, with the north London club in particular having been impressed with Niguez’s displays while at the Campo de Futbol de Vallecas.
However, those eye-catching performances from the 19-year-0ld have now also alerted the attentions of the west Londoners too, with Blues head coach Jose Mourinho understood to be sending his scouts out to Spain on Sunday in order to watch Niguez in action first hand against Getafe in La Liga.
As a result, it is now expected that both top-flight giants will battle it out for Niguez this month, with Atleti understood to be prepared to offload the Spanish starlet in order to help ease some of the capital club’s mounting debts.
In total, Niguez has managed one goal and one assist in his 19 league matches for Vallecano to date.
