The 25 year old Bernabeu man was a target for David Moyes on summer transfer window deadline-day but no deal could be reached at the time but Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti may now feel more comfortable about offloading the former Benfica man.
Coentrao has seemingly lost the left-back war to Marcelo and as such has started just four La Liga fixtures this season and is seen by Moyes as a replacement for veteran Patrice Evra, who is out of contract in the summer.
A deal for Coentrao will apparently be a loan move until the summer when presumably Man United will have the option of making such a move permanent.
Everton’s Leighton Baines has long been linked with a move to follow Moyes to Old Trafford but Man United have failed with two official bids for the England man and may well have given up on signing the 28 year old Toffees star.
