The 25 year old missed a Chelsea training session today that has further fueled speculation of a move to Old Trafford which is seemingly close to completion if the mountains of speculation on the subject are to be believed.

Man United have failed in the pursuit of a number of top players and will be cautiously optimistic of landing Mata, with Chelsea apparently happy to sell the playmaker to a club they don’t see as a Premier League title rival.

The Daily Mirror state that Man United will offer Mata a four year contract, and perhaps more importantly, the regular first team football he needs ahead of the 2014 World Cup finals.

Mata has started just half of Chelsea’s 22 Premier League fixtures and hasn’t featured at all since throwing a wobbly after being subbed against Southampton on New Year’s Day.

David Moyes could well do with some added midfield invention and ineffective stars such as Nani, Tom Cleverley, Ashley Young and Shinji Kagawa may well be concerned about their respective Man United futures.
