Gylfi Sigurdsson
Winners: Tottenham Hotspur
Losers: Liverpool
Gylfi Sigurdsson scored 7 goals in 19 appearances for Brendan Rodgers’ Swansea City when on loan from TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, and was one of the success stories of the south Wales side’s debut season in the Premier League.
When Liverpool appointed Rodgers as manager, he was naturally keen to bring his old prolific midfielder to Anfield.
However, Tottenham Hotspur were also impressed, and Hoffenheim found their offer more enticing. The Iceland international moved to White Hart Lane, and Rodgers elected to move for Joe Allen for the bargain price of £15m instead – unable to let go of his Swans connection.
Just cut the umbilical cord, Brendan. You’re on your own now.
