Arsenal are thought to still be keen on striking a deal for the France international as Wenger prepares to bolster his frontline this summer to help Olivier Giroud in the striking department.
However, sources in Italy are suggesting that the side from the Italian capital are hoping to beat the Gunners to the punch as they look to add some serious quality to their ranks in anticipation for next season’s Champions League.
Roma have struck a new partnership with Nike and are believed to be actively pursuing a big-name player sponsored by the same company in order to showcase the lucrative deal with the American multinational corporation.
And Roma are said to be comfortable with Benzema’s salary, which is believed to be in the region of £3.7m per year, and his transfer value, which has him worth around £23m.
Benzema had been heavily linked with a move to the Emirates over the summer, but they decided to splash out over £40m on German international midfielder Mesut Ozil instead.
