Melbourne Victory’s Nick Ansell picks up very harsh red card in derby.
The debate over whether players should be sent off for conceding penalties as the last man has been raging this week, following Arsenal and Manchester City’s Champions League defeats.
And Down Under in the A-League, this decision has also sparked debate.
Referee Strebre Delovski sent off Melbourne Victory’s Nick Ansell in the derby with Melbourne Heart, even though it appeared his only offence was being kicked in the face by an opponent and clattered by his own goalkeeper.
Another angle reportedly showed a slight shirt pull, but was the ref right to show Ansell a red?
The sending off came with Victory 2-0 down and they went on to lose the game 4-0.
