Anfield side chase Bernabeu full-back.
Liverpool have reportedly made contact with Real Madrid over their interest in Brazilian international Marcelo according to Football Direct News.
Anfield boss Brendan Rodgers has apparently made the 25 year old left-back a top priority this summer which is perhaps a little surprising given the amazing form shown by youngster John Flanagan, who has been filling in superbly in the position acting as cover for injured Spaniard Jose Enrique.
There is speculation that Bernabeu boss Carlo Ancelotti may look to offload Marcelo, and back-up left-back Fabio Coentrao, with AC Milan, Juventus and Inter Milan all said to be taking an interest.
Any interested party will have to fork out as much as £30m for Marcelo, an asking price that may further dent Liverpool’s interest.
Marcelo was out for much of last term but has wrestled back the starting spot this season though if Real Madrid fail to net either a La Liga of Champions League triumph then the chances of Ancelotti conducting a clear-out will increase significantly.
Rodgers knows that with Champions League football all but assured for next term he can go about targeting top quality additions to help beef up a leaky defence.
