Anfield side chase Atletico Madrid youngster.
Liverpool are ready to make a move to sign in-form Atletico Madrid playmaker Koke according to Football Direct News.
The 22 year old Spanish international has helped Diego Simeone’s side to top La Liga and may well be a player in high demand but Anfield boss Brendan Rodgers hopes to see off other interest parties with a move for the youngster this summer.
No player has provided more assists in La Liga action this term and Koke could be seen by Rodgers as a long term successor to veteran captain Steven Gerrard, with the 33 year old clearly in good form of late but obviously into the latter stages of his glittering career.
Simeone will be loathed to lose any of his star performers but knows that Atletico Madrid have a habit of cashing in on players and a big offer for Koke may well be considered, and one imagines striker Diego Costa will also be the subject of much interest.
As well as acting as a potential Gerrard replacement Rodgers may see Koke as a much needed central midfield option with the Northern Irishman not having a great deal of players to select in that area with basically Jordan Henderson, Joe Allen and Lucas Leiva being those he can choose from at present.
Koke is likely to feature in Vicente del Bosque’s 2014 World Cup squad and as such Rodgers may well elect to make an early summer bid before his price-tag increases.
