Real Madrid beat Bayern Munich 1-0 at Estadio Santiago Bernabeu in a captivating first leg of their UEFA Champions League semi-final.
The only goal of the game was scored by Karim Benzema, who won the ball superbly in his own half before starting off a counter attack.
The ball moved swiftly from Cristiano Ronaldo to Fabio Coentrao to Benzema to finish at the back post, and Real Madrid went ahead at the break.
Ronaldo had a great chance to double the lead, but could not control his first time shot and blazed over.
So too did Angel Di Maria when a cross found him at the far post, but also shot skyward from close range after controlling the ball well.
After the break, Real Madrid pushed further out from their deep starting positions, and enjoyed the majority of play, but it was Bayern Munich who had the best chance of the half.
Mario Goetze could only fire the ball straight at Iker Casillas unmarked in the middle of the box, and late on Thomas Mueller had a penalty shout dismissed by referee Howard Webb.
In the end though, Real Madrid kept a vital clean sheet, and should have both Ronaldo and Gareth Bale fit for the second leg in Munich.
